Milton Conservation Society was formed in 1987 by
residents, who in 1986 opposed plans to demolish 5 Victorian houses to build 79 flats.
They saw the need to protect the local
heritage and with help from the Civic Trust lobbied the Council to create
Milton Conservation Area.
Today, we have a long record of work to support the
conservation area commenting on planning matters,
encouraging good design and improving the street scene with planters helped
also by our
sponsors' generosity.
We have good links with our
councillors who actively support
our aims.

Welcome
Milton
and
Shorefields
conservation areas were created to protect examples of architecture
of Southend as it started to
boom from the Mid Victorian through to Edwardian eras.
Milton Conservation Society aims to
-
conserve our
past and improve the future of our area.
We are consulted on all
planning applications in Milton and Shorefields as well as larger initiatives in the Town.
-
promote
standards
of planning and design by recognising
improvements with conservation awards.
-
raise awareness of
the areas history and heritage
-
keep
you informed about issues
affecting Milton and Shorefields via our website and newsletter
which we
distribute several times a year to all residents.
Conservation Area status
helps
protect our heritage (and property
values are often higher than those outside because of the additional
care, thought and resources given to the area) but the
council can only do so much, conservation needs the support of residents.
